Seminar on Current Issues and Challenges in Life Science
(25th March, 2015)
One
day National Seminar on Current issues and challenges in Life Science was
organized by Dept. of Sciences on 25th March, 2015. Dr. Deepak
Wadhawan, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Zoology, DAV College Jalandhar was the
chief resource person. He talked about the entomological diversity and the
challenges faced in research field. Students of undergraduate classes attended
the lecture and all faculties of sciences were highly benefited from the talk.
National Seminar on
Understanding Breast Cancer
(6th April,
2016)
The
seminar commenced at 10:00 AM, with after brief introduction of the Dr.
Mokshi. Dr. Pradeep Garg, Assistant Professor, GGS Medical College,
Faridkot, took up the podium and went on to discuss breast cancer in its depth
which included an elaborate dialogue on its causes, symptoms, treatment
options, self-examination and preventative measures. He dismantled all myths
and overcame taboos concerning breast cancer and gave students the entire
spectrum of the topic on basis of factual accuracy.
In
compliance to the Pink theme of the campaign, students and the managing team
were dressed accordingly. This promoted unity on part of the audience to stand
together in the face of breast cancer, creating awareness among them and
encouraging them to pass on this important and valuable information to their
female peers and family members. Brochures on understanding Breast Cancer and
pink ribbons were also distributed among the audience.A question & answer
session was held towards the end of the seminar which further dismantled
certain myths the students held about breast cancer and addressed any other
personal queries that they had.
National Workshop on Application of Biostatistics in
Medical and Biological Research
(21st -23rd September, 2016)
Department
of Zoology organized Three Day Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
Sponsored National workshop on "Application of Biostatistics in Medical
and Biological Research" from 21st to 23rd September,
2016 at Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur. Bio Statistics is the branch of
statistics which is deducing the scientific data which is created in the health
sciences and is mainly used for receiving a data and make valid inferences to
solve the problems in research in the field of Biology. The resources persons
included eminent personalities from ICMR. Dr.Ajit Mukherjee, Scientist
F, ICMR, New Delhi, Dr. Smita Asthana MD, Course coordinator Scientist
D, Biostatistics and Epidemiology Training Center, NICPR, ICMR, Noida and Dr. Satyanarayana,
(Course Director) Scientist G, National Institute of Cancer Prevention &
Research (ICMR), Noida were the resource persons. Students of post graduate
classes of Zoology were highly benefited from it.
State Level
Workshop on Cancer Awareness And Prevention
(18th to 21st October, 2016)
Department
of Zoology organized Four Day State level workshop on “Cancer Awareness and
Prevention” in collaboration with Capitol Hospital, Jalandhar from 18th to
21st October, 2016 at Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur.
The main resource persons were Dr. Manzoor Ahmed, Dr. Shivani Shouri, Dr.
Debu Biswal and Dr. Himanshu from Capitol Hospital who made students aware of
the fact that life style choices impact our overall health and that many types
of cancer are directly associated with unhealthy habits. Students of all
streams (Science, Arts, Commerce) attended the lectures delivered by resource
persons and the lectures ended with round of discussion
where
students got satisfactory replies for their queries related to cancer.
National Conference-Advancement
in Life Sciences, Impact of Emerging Technology
(6th -7th March, 2017)

Day UGC sponsored Conference on Advancement in Life Sciences, Impact of
Emerging Technology dated 6th -7th March, 2017was
organized by Department of Zoology. Eminent personalities working in different
fields of life sciences took part in it and bestowed students with knowledge.
Expertise talked about latest trends, challenges and advancements in research
methodology of life sciences. The list of resource persons is huge which included Prof

Entomological Technique used in
Teaching & Research
(10th April,
2018)
National
Workshop on “Entomological technique Used in teaching & Research” dated
10th April, 2018. Dr Deepak Wadhawan, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Zoology,
DAV College, Jalandhar was the resource person. The live demonstrations of
insect dissections enriched the skills of students. Students of postgraduate
classes attended the lecture and were highly benefited from the workshop.
Workshop on Fish Farming and
Fisheries
(10-14th Sept, 2018)
The Department of Zoology has various activities which
improves the skill and provides hand on training for the undergraduate and
postgraduate students. Department of Zoology, DSCW organized one day and
five day training programme on “Fish Farming”. 42 participants including 2 male
from Punjab attended the training. The participants were given insight into
technical know how for fish farming practices including pond preparation,
stocking and post-stocking management with special reference to water quality
and health management, fish feed formulation and feeding strategies, fish
processing and value addition etc.
Specialized lectures and demonstration with respect to Pangas
Culture, Inland Saline Water Aquaculture, Ornamental Fish Culture, Azolla
Culture and Integrated Fish Farming with livestock and agriculture were also
delivered during the training programme. Visit to the fish farms of progressive
fish farmers along with modern fish market, Ferozepur were also arranged for
more practical knowledge.
The participants were delighted to meet Mr.
Satnam Singh, Farm Superintendent, Government Fish Breeding Farm,
Malwal, Ferozepur and Mr. Rajeshwar Sharma , CEO
Fish Farmer Development Program who motivated the trainees to adopt the fish
farming in a holistic approach by harvesting quality fish along with its value
addition through product development for higher economic gains.
State Level Workshop on Prawn Farming
(15th Sept, 2018)
P.
G Department of Zoology, DSCW organized a State Level Training on “Prawn
Farming: Culture and Harvesting” dated 15th September, 2018 at Fisheries and Prawn
Farm, Village-Bahadur Khera, Malout. Mr. Rajveer Singh from same village
informed students about the importance of Prawn Farming. He delivered
a lecture on the preparation of specific breed of prawn, its diet, harvesting
and marketing policies.
